- **WARNING**
-
- If you have an IBM PC AT and you have installed a nonstandard
- (16Mhz) crystal DO NOT attempt to install software protected by
- Softguard using the normal procedure. Such products include
- dBase III and other programs which use the installation counter
- technique.
-
- Apparently, the installation procedure is critically dependent
- on the clock and will clobber the source diskette during
- installation. The sympton of a damaged diskette is the message
- "unable to run on this machine." Temporarily reinstall the
- 12Mhz crystal before installing the software.
-
- Not only will installation be impossible on the AT, but it will also
- be impossible on any other machine.
-
- The exact nature of the damage is unknown to me at this time, but
- the effects sure are! I am not certain that this is the only problem
- with Softguard and the AT, so beware. I understand the Softguard's
- "creators" are addressing the problem, but don't count on any
- helpful announcements.
